The Apple Song (Single | 2008)

by Big Scary

Shooting stars down from your eyes I'm sitting here it's no surprise That you cannot oblige me Nor the well of fear that swells Inside our bellies and our minds Never lets us fall behind The race that we all love so much And laugh and talk and smile about And all hail to the sun That lifts the frost off our closed eyelids It makes us realise that we are fucking up our lives But we are having a good time We are all getting along So let's just party like we never knew And dance and sing and laugh about it Sometimes I just wonder how far the apple falls Falls from the tree Sometimes I just wonder how far the apple falls Falls from the tree Soon will come a day that you realise That you are just an average little being So ordinary in every way But you're a baby in a big girl's body Crying out to love somebody And you keep aiming for the sky And you keep trying 'til the day you die Sometimes I do wonder if our minds will ever Will ever be Sometimes I do wonder if our minds will ever Will ever be Forgiving Forgiven Unchanging I'm changing
The open road is an invitation But it's not made to satisfy me And a warm embrace is an expectation That when I'm cold I'll climb inside And I wasn't sent to save you 'Cos then I'd have to save me too And I don't think we'll live forever Forever is too long me Oh you think happiness will heal you But it can't heal what we hide inside And your mother was a positive thinker But that wasn't enough to keep you by her side And I didn't come to entertain you And your sunny smile look won't satisfy me And if I had to re-create you I wouldn't change a thing and I wouldn't change three But burn, let it burn Oh let it burn Burn, let it burn Oh let it burn Oh I didn't come to make a living That just wouldn't satisfy me And the man next door who makes a killing That just wouldn't satisfy me I don't want a reputation And I don't think you want one too And I thank you for the education One satisfied boy's in love with you

The very first recordings of beloved Aussie duo Big Scary. Originally part of a 6-track demo used to book shows around home-town of Melbourne, "The Apple Song" was uploaded to Triple J Unearthed and played on national radio - creating the momentum that would fuel Big Scary's long and ongoing musical partnership.
B-side "Satisfy Me" is an alt-country track, a rare BS song featuring both Tom and Jo on acoustic guitars.
