I’m not a faceless, not a racist, not a faction I’m not a whore, wanting more, I’m not a fraction I’m not your teacher, not your preacher, not your hometown I’m not unable, on your table, not your background I’m not obtuse, or some excuse, I’m not an open door I’m not your killer, got my filler now I want some more I’m not a lover to another, not a stereotype I’m not a rock through your window on a cold night I’m not a book, I’m not an opus, not an artist I’m not a painter, not a poet on your shortlist They’re trying to get you, trying to keep you, trying to pin you down Another gun under the table and a long walk home

Luck Now 03:56
You see my love is no formal position You say my love is just cold repetition re-done   I fear that I’m another acquisition I fear that I’m just now pure imposition my love   You see that I’m losing the heart You see that I’m losing more heart every day   I remember the heat at the start Now the sound of my feet as I walk on my way
3.
Mud for the connoisseur Your distaste was palpable My mistake was shun-able Damn, I hate this episode But I was vulnerable I desired your resolve I secretly hoped that you chose When you stood by my side Now I just wait for the next high Sleep through the first four nights And when all is aligned Attainment will be mine Attainment will be mine I want your attention I want a body So you’ll want my body But I also want to say no And I’ve enjoyed the feeling When you and me we’re kidding It’s fun for the time being But will it ever serve me I’m barely able to decide Now I just wait for the next high Sleep through the first four nights And when all is aligned Attainment will be mine Attainment will be mine
4.
I see a harm in my head And the tower in flames I'll sing the song of the dead The chanson insane It's drilling holes in my pockets I'll never, ever stop it Fill my soul with your dockets And your calm refrain: You know, ahhh You know, ahhh The cold wind blows you its kisses The darkness takes them away Just a slave to its wishes Just a slave to its ways So go and do your dirty dishes Lay restless and suspicious Be the prey amongst the hunters The kill judicious Go sing the song of light and hope But never believe both Go turn the injured to the maimed With your calm refrain: You know, ahhh You know, ahhh The cold wind blows you its kisses The darkness takes them away Just a slave to its wishes Just a slave to its ways

Phil Collins 04:01
Lady of the forest, take me to the river Pluck me from my warm nest, down to the river Baby of the water, I long for my mother's arms Angel of disorder, I long for a lover's charms send my voice into the heavens and my heart into the black earth But I’ll not forfeit all my love 'cause I know you're up above somewhere Curse me with your brimstone, curse me with your fire It's not a book, it's not a throne, it is you I require Oh the torture & the pain, and the sight of you standing there But I’ll not forfeit all my love 'cause I know you're up above somewhere Heathen child of fire, conquer my desire Be the word out on the streets, be the words that I admire Be the song down from the heavens and the rumble of the black earth But I’ll not forfeit all my love 'cause I know you're up above somewhere.

Twin Rivers 04:03
Gonna have to wake up I don't wanna have to wake up, get up, get changed, game face  I don't wanna have to wake again this morning And the conversation's so old We can't even muster a fight And my body goes cold When you turn off the bedside light Gonna have to wake up I don't wanna have to wake up, get up, get changed, game face  I don't wanna have to wake again this morning This is my idea of fun Hope is lost and time is won I know we can solve this We are no old souls I know we can resolve this This is my idea of fun Hope is lost and time is won This is my idea of fun Foreign thoughts, and feelings: none I know we can solve this We are no old souls I know we can resolve this ...and nothing ever happens, will something ever happen Gonna have to wake up I don't wanna have to wake up, get up, get changed, game face  I don't wanna have to wake again this morning

Invest 04:30
Your life was new But you waited far too long You waited now it’s gone We store our secrets down We store our secrets down Knew I was meant to fade ‘Cos my heart is weak and my legs don’t go I’m paint against a wall But the pain ain’t there at all And so I feel I should stay put You store your secrets down Your life was new But you waited far too long You waited now it’s gone We store our secrets down We store our secrets down A mind that knows so much Don’t know how much time does steal us No child anymore, no game to stop you No hand upon the door And so I feel I should stay put You store your secrets down Your life was new But you waited far too long You waited now it’s gone We store our secrets down We store our secrets down
8.
Lay Me Down 04:00
Take me now, See my love’s grown old Break me down See my blood runs cold Forward now, be mercy’s bride With your mother’s heart and your father’s eyes Pluck me from the dirt along your way Home, take me home, Take me home with you Collect all our pictures Collect all our pictures Put them on your wall You are the shepherd’s call The ocean’s rise and its fall Home, take me home Take me home Take me home with you Collect all our pictures Put them in your scriptures Reach down from the heavens Just take me from here Do now as your teacher taught Lead me away from word and thought Leave me with a feeling that you’re near. Drawn in by that old prelude; You moved me and I moved in you And the breeze carried our breath into the night
9.
Are my eyes open, Or am I still dreaming of you? Has my heart spoken, Why am I still afraid to love you? Your call is spreading through me like night’s fire Its weight will overtake it brings me to you
10.
Long Worry 03:46
I am worn, frayed and torn An agent of love forlorn I am the city sweep The petty thief, with a stolen heart And I’m trying to find my way back to you and pick up from the start I rode the waves of fortune ‘Til the ocean whispered your tune A lofty ledge and jagged edge, I crashed upon Now I’m drowning trying to catch a glimpse of where you’ve gone Go let your hair down baby, Your caress cannot save me A letter fetch, as arms can’t stretch across a sea And I’ll be waiting on a couch somewhere for your reply
11.
I’m a face in the crowd I’m a hole in the ground I’m a beautiful mess I’m your shame and regret I’m hoping to find a way out of here

about

Scroll over song titles for lyrics.

The sophomore album from the Melbourne duo, which went on to earn J Award and ARIA nominations, and win the prestigious Australian Music Prize.

The root of this record’s emotionally involved song craft is the piano. Jagged rhythms, chopped up drumbeats and regular, emphatic lyrical repetition, is overtly thanks to the influence of hip hop production.

Whilst the album cover makes you question who the artist is in that work - mother nature or the photographer - the album title is asking a broader question about the definition of art: is art defined by those making it, or by those consuming it? In this case, Big Scary had purposely let go of any preconceptions of the album's reception in order to approach its creation.
